What vaccines are accepted?

For Cruises Departing from North America (U.S., Puerto Rico, Canada)

Vaccines that are fully approved or authorized for emergency use by the U.S. FDA or the World Health Organization, with the exception of CanSino, will be accepted by the ports we sail to. A guest is considered fully vaccinated 14 days after the required number of doses in their vaccine series have been fully administered (e.g. 2 shots of Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca, etc., or 1 shot of Johnson & Johnson).

We strongly recommend that fully vaccinated guests also get a booster dose when they become eligible to do so. 

For guests on cruises that visit Bermuda, note that the local government does not recognize Novovax (Nuvaxovid, Covovax) or Covaxin as approved vaccines — guests whose vaccination series consists of either will not be permitted to go ashore. For cruises departing on or after September 5, 2022 from U.S. home ports in California, Louisiana, and Texas, Royal Caribbean strongly recommends that guests are fully vaccinated with the final dose administered at least 14 days before sailing, but will not require vaccination to sail. However, we will ask that you disclose your vaccination status to us prior to boarding (via the Royal Caribbean app, on our website, or at the terminal). Guests who are not vaccinated will need to meet testing requirements to board.

Mixed Vaccines from Different Manufacturers

Mixed vaccination series consisting of doses from different manufacturers will be accepted in many ports of call, as long as your vaccine series meets the following requirements. However, mixed vaccines may not be accepted at all ports of call. Guests who are vaccinated with a mixed series may not be allowed to go ashore at these ports, or may need to undergo additional testing if they wish to go ashore. 

  • Must consist of at least two doses of vaccines that are fully approved or authorized for emergency use by the U.S. FDA or the World Health Organization. 
  • The 2 doses must be administered at least 28 days apart. 
  • The final dose must be completed at least 14 days before sailing. 

Mixed vaccines may not be accepted at all ports of call. Guests who are vaccinated with a mixed series may not be allowed to go ashore at these ports, or may need to undergo additional testing if they wish to go ashore.

Vaccine Trial Participants

U.S. based AstraZeneca and Novavax (Nuvaxovid, Covovax) clinical trial participants will be considered fully vaccinated 14 days after completing their vaccine series.

For Cruises Departing From Australia

To be considered fully vaccinated guests should be vaccinated with a recognized vaccine and dosage as specified by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA), with the final dose administered at least 14 days before sailing. It is recommended that all guests are up to date with COVID-19 boosters if eligible, as well as the influenza vaccine at least two weeks prior to sailing.

Mixed Vaccines from Different Manufacturers

We accept vaccines as specified by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA), with the final dose administered at least 14 days before sailing. For more information on Australian recognized vaccines, including mixed vaccines, and dosage requirements please click here.

For Cruises Departing From EUROPE & ISRAEL

All Royal Caribbean guests age 12 and older (18 and older if your cruise departs from Stockholm) must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 with the final dose administered at least 14 days before sailing. For the best experience on your cruise, we strongly recommend that guests age 6 and up should be “up to date” on their COVID-19 vaccination. We will ask that you disclose your vaccination status prior to boarding (via the app, on our website, or at the terminal). We recommend you bring your vaccination documents with you, as local authorities or businesses in some destinations may require it for entrance. 

According to the European Medicines Agency (EMA), being up to date means you have had the second dose of your original vaccine series within the past 270 days or a booster dose – and that you were vaccinated with an EMA-approved vaccine: Pfizer, Moderna, Johnson & Johnson, Novavax (Nuvaxovid, Covovax), or Astrazeneca; or with a vaccine authorized by the World Health Organization. These standards apply to guests age 12 and up (or 6 and up for Italy stops). If you need a booster dose, you can get it as soon as the day you board the cruise and will be considered up to date instantly.

Your vaccine must be approved or authorized for emergency use by the World Health Organization (WHO) (with the exception of CanSino) or European Medicines Agency (EMA). For cruises departing from Italy, your vaccine must be approved or authorized by the European Medicines Agency (EMA).

Additionally, for cruises visiting or ending in Italy, France, Portugal and Belgium, these countries only recognize EMA-authorized vaccines from certain manufacturers: Pfizer, Moderna, Johnson & Johnson, Novavax (Nuvaxovid, Covovax), and Astrazeneca (as well as CoviShield in Italy and Belgium). Guests who have been vaccinated with a vaccine from another manufacturer will be considered unvaccinated and will need to complete additional testing prior to going ashore in these ports.

For cruises departing on or after September 5, 2022 from European home ports, Royal Caribbean strongly recommends that guests are fully vaccinated and up to date, with the final dose administered at least 14 days before sailing, but will not require vaccination to sail. However, we will ask that you disclose your vaccination status to us during check-in. Guests who are not vaccinated will need to meet testing requirements to board.

What it Means to be Fully Vaccinated for Guests 12-17

Guests age 12-17 will be considered fully vaccinated if:

  • They received their 1st and only vaccine dose no earlier than 4 weeks after a positive Covid result
  • After their 1st vaccine dose, they tested positive for Covid, then received their 2nd vaccine dose no earlier than 4 weeks after the positive Covid result

Mixed Vaccines from Different Manufacturers 

Mixed vaccination series consisting of doses from different manufacturers will be accepted in many ports of call, as long as your vaccine series meets the following requirements. However, mixed vaccines may not be accepted at all ports of call. Guests who are vaccinated with a mixed series may not be allowed to go ashore at these ports by local authorities, or may need to undergo additional testing if they wish to go ashore.

For Cruises Departing from Singapore

All guests above 12 years of age (13 years & older) must present proof of full COVID-19 vaccination with the final dose administered at least 14 days before sailing. This is a requirement of Royal Caribbean to sail — guests who are unable to show proof of full vaccination will not be permitted to board. Kids age 5 to 12 who have been vaccinated may follow the protocols for vaccinated guests.
